Facilities Committee

The Recreation NB | Loisirs N.-B. Facilities Committee exists to support and strengthen the recreation sector across New Brunswick. The committee plays a dual role: it advises the Recreation NB | Loisirs N.-B. board of Directors on matters related to facility-focused training and professional development, and it helps guide members toward meaningful learning opportunities that benefit both themselves and their communities.

Beyond training, the committee also works to provide members with relevant tools, resources, and best practices to support their day-to-day operations. The facilities committee helps ensure that members feel supported, informed, and equipped to deliver high-quality services in their facilities.

SOP Usage Statement

The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) provided by Recreation NB | Loisirs N.-B. are intended as guiding documents to support our members. Recreation professionals should always confirm with current legislation, regulations, and municipal/provincial mandates before using SOPs. These resources are designed to give municipalities and organizations a starting point, which can then be customized to fit their local context and support best practices. Recreation NB | Loisirs N.-B. does not assume any liability for the use of these resources; they are provided solely as a reference to help guide local practices.

Ice Resurfacer Weekly SOP

Weekly inspection and operation of the ice resurfacer to ensure safe and efficient performance. This includes checking fuel or power levels, blade condition, brushes, water systems, and safety features, as well as performing a visual inspection for any damage before use.

RO Weekly SOP

Weekly inspection and operation of the Reverse Osmosis (RO) system to ensure proper water filtration and system performance. This includes checking pressure, flow rates, filters, valves, and overall system functionality, as well as documenting any maintenance needs.

Ladder Weekly SOP

Weekly inspection of ladders to ensure they are safe for use. This includes checking rungs, rails, feet, locks, and overall stability, and removing any ladders that show signs of damage or wear.

Ice Maintenance Weekly SOP

Weekly maintenance of the ice surface to ensure optimal quality and safety. This includes resurfacing, checking ice thickness, repairing cracks or rough spots, and inspecting boards and surrounding areas for hazards.

Harness Layard Weekly SOP

Weekly inspection of harnesses and lanyards to ensure they are in good condition and safe for use. This includes checking webbing, stitching, buckles, connectors, and labels, as well as removing any equipment showing signs of wear or damage.

Weekly inspection and operation of forklifts to ensure safe and efficient use. This includes checking fluid levels, tires, controls, forks, safety features, and performing a visual inspection for damage or hazards before operation.

Daily inspection and operation checks of the scissor lift to ensure it is safe, functional, and ready for use. This includes reviewing fluid levels, controls, tires, safety features, and performing a visual walkaround to identify any damage or hazards before operation.

Eyewash Station Weekly SOP

Weekly inspection of eyewash stations to confirm they are accessible, clean, and in proper working order. This includes activating the unit to flush water lines, checking flow and water clarity, and ensuring signage and lighting are visible.

Weekly inspection and testing of fire and life safety systems to ensure they are fully operational. This includes checking alarms, detectors, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and other safety equipment, as well as documenting any issues for immediate follow-up.
